Congratulations to our winners, and thanks to all those who entered the Contest. All entrants had to read the book Religion, Reason and Revelation by Dr. Gordon H. Clark and write an essay about the book.
The First Prize winner is Meghan Leigh Rader.Biography: I am so blessed to have been raised in a family where the Truth of God's Word is spoken and discussed on a daily basis. From a young age, my father inspired in me a passion for apologetics and theology, and upon entering high school, he encouraged me to study the works of Gordon Clark, John Robbins, and other great Biblical thinkers who seem to be such an anomaly in this day and age. I'm so thankful for organizations like The Trinity Foundation who boldly and urgently present the truths of Scripture. At present, I am a sophomore at James Madison University, where I am majoring in piano performance, hopefully to someday become a piano professor. Outside of my music studies, I love reading, hiking, and simply spending time with family and friends. The more I study God's Word, the more I am in awe of the Creator we serve and love. I can't wait to see how He will continue to work out His Sovereign Plan in my life, and use me to work out His Plan in the lives and hearts of others! |

The Second Prize winner is Samantha Young.Biography: I grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis, Minnesota and am currently a senior at Northwestern College in St. Paul, pursuing licensure in English as a Second Language Education and minoring in both Spanish and Biblical Studies. I was blessed to have been raised in a Christian home, but God has brought me through a number of stages in making this faith truly my own. The most recent of these has led me to delve into an intense intellectual scrutiny of the Christian worldview and coherency thereof, along with studies in such philosophical topics as epistemology and the problem of evil. I enjoy language-learning, teaching, reading, philosophy, playing violin and piano, and spending time outside. I am also a firm believer in dark chocolate, black coffee, and ice cream. In the future, I look forward to using my degree in ESL to teach English either in Central/South America or here at home in the cultural and lingual diversity of Minneapolis/St. Paul. |

The Third Prize winner is Erik Guichelaar.Biography: My parents immigrated to Canada from The Netherlands in 1979, and settled on a dairy farm in rural southwestern Ontario. I was born in 1986. When I was 17, my church joined the Protestant Reformed Churches of America (PRCA), of which denomination I am a member. I went to the University of Western Ontario, in London, Ontario, to obtain my B.A. with an honors double major in English and Philosophy. I then moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan and attended Calvin College for a year. After that, I began seminary studies at the Protestant Reformed Theological School, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Currently I am in my second year there. I feel the calling to pursue the ministry, and by God's grace, I will graduate in 2013 and be able to enter the ministry in the Protestant Reformed Churches. My upbringing was thoroughly Reformed and Calvinistic. The Lord has put in my heart a love for our rich Reformed heritage. I hold to the Three Forms of Unity, as a faithful summary and explanation of the Word of God. And I love and cherish the blessed truth of sovereign, particular grace. The Bible alone is the Word of God: this truth The Trinity Foundation is zealous to teach and defend. I thank God for the good work The Trinity Foundation does in His Kingdom. I also want to thank The Trinity Foundation itself for this scholarship competition. Through it I have grown to appreciate more fully the truth that the Bible alone, as the Word of God, is the only source of all truth and knowledge. I hope that my essay reflects this, and I hope that those who read my essay may be blessed by it in this way also. |
